Policy Statements


14.  ISSUES FROM NUCLEAR TECHNOLOGY

14.1  The DRS opposes not only the existence and proliferation of nuclear weapons, but all other aspects of nuclear technology with the exception of limited technology necessary for the prudent use of medical isotopes.
14.2  The DRS supports a nuclear arms freeze, a comprehensive nuclear test ban, a nuclear-free Pacific treaty, and a ban on entry of nuclear powered ships to Australian ports.
14.3  The DRS calls on the Australian Government to cease the mining and export of  uranium.
14.4  The DRS calls for the establishment of a national health register for participants in the uranium industry, with the aim of ensuring comprehensive data collection and facilitating the diagnosis and management of disease in this population during and after their involvement in the industry.
