Federal budget time saw a great deal of political activity among the Executive and the Council of the Australian Medical Students’ Association (AMSA). The proposed removal of the sunset clause from the provider number legislation, and some of the measures outlined in the Federal Budget, have encouraged a significant number of medical students to shake off the shackles of apathy and engage in a good deal of letter-writing and emailing, with positive results.
AMSA firmly believes that all the clinical and diagnostic expertise in the world is useless if it is not implemented by policy that ensures equitable and fair access to it. It is this principle that has informed our response to the various challenges that have arisen recently.
