The Medicare Fact Sheets were initially compiled in 1999. In 2001, they were updated with two new sheets added. This edition of 10 fact sheets was published in New Doctor issue 75, Winter 2001.

The Medicare Fact Sheets have been compiled by The Friends of Medicare. This is an alliance of organisations concerned to protect Medicare as the basis for universal access to high quality health care based on need. Its members are the Public Health Association of Australia, the Doctors Reform Society, the Australian Council of Social Services, the Australian Nurses Federation, the Australian Women’s Health Network and the Health Issues Centre.
