UNINSURED TO FUND EVEN MORE HEALTH CARE FOR THE RICH

"Reports today (SMH) that private health insurance will be expanded to cover items such as chemotherapy, dialysis, and other care in the home is a kick in the guts to the overwhelming majority of Australians who cannot afford private insurance," said Dr Tim Woodruff, President, Doctors Reform Society.

"Over 30% of the money spent for these services will come from taxes," said Dr Woodruff, 'and those private patients will jump any public queues for such services".

"Thus, the 56% of Australians without private insurance will continue to wait for services whilst helping to pay for their richer neighbours to queue jump into the taxpayer funded private system."

"Whatever happened to ‘a fair go"? said Dr Woodruff. 'Why not spend the money on the public system which everyone can use?"
