One in Three Sick Australians Priced Out of Health Care

“Results of the Commonwealth Fund report released yesterday, on how our health system is working show that 34% of sick Australians miss out on health care because they can’t afford it,” said Dr Tim Woodruff, President, Doctors Reform Society

“One in five are not filling out prescriptions but despite this information and similar results previously, the safety net for prescription drugs has just been weakened by the Federal Government,” said Dr Woodruff.

“One in five patients are not seeing doctors when sick, because of costs, and one in five are not having the tests or follow up because of costs, despite the claims that Medicare has been strengthened.”

“These findings highlight the struggle that our patients, especially the most needy, face in their struggle to deal with chronic, serious, and recurrent illnesses,” said Dr Woodruff.
