FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SLUGS PATIENTS WITH SIXTY PERCENT INCREASE IN COPAYMENTS

Reports today that the Health Minister, Tony Abbott will reduce the amount of money patients will get back from Medicare if they have an MRI scan means that patients will have to pay more for the scans said  Dr Tim Woodruff, President, Doctors Reform Society

Instead of costing $103 out of pocket, it will now be $168 that patients will have to find, said Dr Woodruff. One has to ask `How does this strengthen Medicare’ as the Government is claiming it is doing.

It may also represent a direct funding cut to our already underfunded public hospitals as those which have MRIs will now be given less by the Federal Government to keep them working, said Dr Woodruff.
