Doctors Warn FTA Could Cause PBS Cost Increase.
Dr. Robert Marr, spokesman for Doctors Reform Society, today warned that changes to the PBS proposed in the US Free Trade Agreement would almost certainly cause costs to rise in the PBS.
Dr. Marr stated his concerns after a briefing earlier in the week from the Federal Department of Health and Aging.
Proposed changes to the PBS that will almost certainly result in higher costs for Australians include:
1. Establishment of a review committee to review drugs rejected by the PBAC.
2. Establishment of a joint US/Australian government medicines working group to make further changes to the PBS.
