“Government plans flagged today to have simplified billing at doctors surgeries without a requirement to even bulk bill all card holders will see an even bigger fall in the bulk billing rate than we have seen so far” said Dr Tim Woodruff, President of the Doctors Reform Society.
“The Government plans to make it easier for doctors to charge copayments, but will not even guarantee that pensioners and health care card holders are bulk billed,” said Dr Woodruff.
“This Government is telling struggling Australians that they must prove to the doctor that they are desperate and then the doctor will have to judge if they are and charge less. Sadly, more patients will struggle to afford the copayments and miss out on treatment.”
“With bigger copayments, just like with bigger copayments for drugs, some patients will miss out, and will die because of this Government’s policy.”
