Mothers and Babies Lives at Risk Due to Doctors Shortage

"The proposed Federal Governments Medical Indemnity Levy on Doctors is really a levy on patients and is another nail in the coffin of the Public Hospital System and Bulk Billing."  Said Dr Tim Woodruff, President of Doctors Reform Society.

"Mothers and babies lives will be put at risk as a result of a severe shortage of Medical Specialists and Midwives due to the Medical Indemnity Crisis." Said Dr Con Costa; Vice-President of the Doctors Reform Society.

"The Federal Government has totally bungled the medical Indemnity crisis, resulting in Obstetricians leaving their practices and midwives with no insurance.  This will mean many mothers will not be able to have properly trained professionals to help them give birth. The inevitable result of this shortage will be an increase in unnecessary deaths and disability of mothers and babies throughout Australia." Said Dr Costa.

"It is time the Federal Government got it's priorities right before Australians not only pay much more for Health Care but some may even pay with their lives for the Governments failures." Said Dr Con Costa.
