"The reported 8,000 people fleeing the health funds every month is just a trickle which will become a flood" said Dr Peter Davoren, President of the Doctors Reform Society.
"The people leaving now have belatedly realised that they are paying good money for nothing. They are waking up to the fact that they are getting poor value for the Lifetime commitment that they were manipulated into making last year" said Dr Davoren.
"The DRS predicted such a result from the beginning" he said.
"It is no surprise this 30% subsidy from the public purse to the private health insurance industry has done nothing to alleviate the demand on our public hospitals. If the Government wanted to really help public hospitals they would redirect this subsidy to public hospitals and Medicare. It they don’t then the result will be longer waiting lists and the death of Medicare" said Dr Davoren.
