MINISTER FOR THE PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE INDUSTRY DELIGHTED WITH INCREASED WASTE OF TAXPAYERS MONEY

The Doctors Reform Society notes with concern the delight expressed by Health Minister Dr Wooldridge, that $2.2 billion taxpayers money is now being poured into supporting the inefficient private health insurance industry.

"There is no evidence that this will be of any benefit to the 70% Australians who do not have private health insurance", said Dr Tim Woodruff, President of the Doctors Reform Society of Victoria.

"Indeed the evidence suggests most Australians will be worse off as this $2.2 billion will not be available for the public hospitals and public health system which all Australians use" said Dr Woodruff.

"$2.2 billion would fund 15 public hospitals with 500 beds each," said Dr Woodruff.

"Dr Wooldridge is acting like a Minister for Private Health Insurance, not a Minister for Health. What has happened to the Government which was to govern for ALL Australians?" asks Dr Woodruff.
