HANSON HEALTH POLICY - A LOSER

The Doctors Reform Society condemned the health policy of Pauline Hanson’s One Nation Party and does not believe it will be popular with the electorate.

" Their policy would destroy Medicare. It is an elitist proposal which may suit the wealthy but would harm everyone else. It is an unashamed return to the 1970’s when lots of ordinary Australians had to go begging, cap in hand, hoping that some hospital or ‘honorary doctor’ would take pity on them." said Dr Theo van Lieshout, spokesperson for the Doctors Reform Society.

" The policy permits tax-deductibility of private insurance premiums as well as opting out of the Medicare levy by those concerned." said Dr van Lieshout.

"Thus, two health systems are created, one for the fortunate rich an another for less fortunate rest. Battlers would be hardest hit." said Dr van Lieshout.

"America is a good example of where this will lead. There you have more money by far being spent on health yet some of the worst health statistics in the world." said Dr van Lieshout.

"The policy should be unacceptable to the majority of Australians, who look on the green Medicare card as a lifesaver. Those disillusioned and struggling who may be considering voting for Ms Hanson should think twice. All Australians should fear the prospect that One Nation could hold the balance of power following this election." said Dr van Lieshout.
