"The tax reforms announced yesterday by the Federal Government are likely to worsen the plight of public health in Australia" said Dr Peter Davoren, President of the Doctors Reform Society of Queensland.
"The provision of a 30% tax rebate for private health insurance will only benefit the 30% of the population with private health insurance (mostly the well-off 30% in the community). These public funds will be used to prop up a failing private health system at the expense of public hospitals" said Dr Davoren.
"The Doctors Reform Society calls for the money available for this rebate to be funnelled directly into the public health system so all Australians can benefit from the use of these public funds for health care" said Dr Davoren.
