DOCTORS REFORM SOCIETY OPPOSES ONE NATIONS’ STAND ON GUN CONTROL

"The Doctors Reform Society is deeply dismayed at the move by the One Nation political party to campaign with a policy of more liberal gun control laws.  There is considerable morbidity and mortality associated with firearm-inflicted injuries whether they be deliberate, accidental or occurring in the setting of domestic violence" said Dr Peter Davoren, President of the Doctors Reform Society of Queensland.

"Restriction on the availability of guns is a vital step in reducing gun-associated injuries.  Vetting applicants for gun licences is inadequate as those who are the cause of multiple fatalities are often free of previous offences" said Dr Davoren.

" The Doctors Reform Society supports strict gun-control regulations and urges Queenslanders to show similar support for gun-control at the up-coming Queensland election" said Dr Davoren.
