The last word on eyes

Kimberley Ivory's column has upset three letter-writers, making one of them "sick". In my case the letters of complaint had this effect.

A few questions:

Presumably specialists believe they provide an important and perhaps essential service. Why then should they be able to charge whatever they like, particularly when they can exert control over their own numbers/competition? Why is the agenda of our profession so influenced by people who feel threatened and hard done by, when by any realistic standard they are not? Why does a group which commonly has a six figure income and good prospects of life-long employment whinge so much? Is this greed, ignorance or simply mass psychosis?
