Viewpoint: How Many Health Departments Does One Country Need?

What has been the big health debate over the last few months in Australia? How to improve immunisation rates? How to improve the health of our indigenous population? How to tackle the burgeoning problem of obesity? None of these, and not even such politically sensitive health issues as the elective surgery waiting list or screening for breast cancer. No, the big issue occupying the minds of the custodians of the health system over the last few months is the amount of money available to the states in the next Medicare Agreement....
